Warwickshire was a “front line” county during the Civil Wars and the Loss Accounts, submitted by the local inhabitants, handwritten by the local constable, were a vehicle to express their grievances and losses suffered as a result of the wars and a means for the Government to hold its own soldiers, commanders and officials to account. Here of the deprivations and taxes suffered by Lighthorne residents.
